5 Months

It's that time of year that I am trying to cram too many things into a day in order to get ready for Christmas. Because we have been so busy, I failed to update you all on our big 5 month old little girl...
Davis was 5 months old last Tuesday and again, I just can't believe where the time has gone. I took her for her check-up and she was 15.6lbs and 26 1/4 in. The Dr was surprised that I had not started her on cereal, etc. yet but I told him I just have not been ready to do so. She is still content with the breast milk she is getting, so I have not been in any hurry to add more to her diet. After things settle down after Christmas we'll start on cereal, etc. I know I have said it so many times before, but Davis is such a sweet girl. She has so much personality which has been fun to watch develop. She smiles all the time which can bring a smile to your face even if you are in a grumpy mood. She has become very content to play on her activity mat, sit in her bouncy seat, and watch Greyson run all over the house! How lucky are we to have these 2 precious kids!!

My Favorite Time of Year

This is my favorite time of year...Christmas. I tell myself every year that I am going to savor every moment leading up to Christmas Day. This year it is even more fun with Greyson being 2 and having our sweet little girl to share all the fun with.

We decorated the house the Saturday after Thanksgiving and are enjoying all the fun decorations. Greyson loves the Christmas tree and especially the lights and ornament that are on it. In hopes that he would keep his little paws off of the big Christmas tree we gave him his own tree with little ornament for his room that he could play with. Greyson also got his own nativity set from his great-aunt Lindsey for his birthday that he LOVES!! We read the Christmas story every night at bedtime in hopes that he will learn what the true meaning of Christmas is all about-JESUS!! We decorated Christmas cookies today; actually Jason and I decorated and Greyson ate them. Needless to say he loved it! Many of you know that Greyson has a fascination with lights, so we are anxious to take him to see the Christmas lights at one of the local parks this week; we know he is going to love it!
We hope you are enjoying the most wonderful time of the year too!!

Greyson's Birthday Party

We had a great time at Greyson's birthday party on Saturday! We celebrated with friends and family at the Children's Museum. If you have never been to a Children's Museum, it's great because there is something for everyone. We had cake, the kids played and Greyson loved opening his gifts. Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate with us!!

1st Haircut

So last Thursday after all the birthday festivities we decided it was finally time for someone to professionally cut Greyson's hair. Because the poor boy has 2 cowlicks we have been letting it grow out a bit in hopes it would help the cowlicks lay down. We decided that we would have Vivian who cuts my hair do it. I made the appointment at a time so that Jason could be there for back-up :) We were a little unsure how this whole experience would go since all the "trims" at home had ended in what seemed to be traumatic experiences for Greyson. Luckily Vivian has a TV in her little room so we knew that would help. We warned Vivian that this might end in him screaming bloody murder...we all geared up as she put the booster seat in the chair, put the cape on Greyson, and turned the TV to PBS. Luckily Clifford was on so I thought well at least the TV will have his attention for a second...He did GREAT!!! He sat in the chair, let Viv cut his hair while he watched Clifford and didn't act like it bothered him in the slightest!! I'll post pictures of the event soon!!

Happy Birthday Greyson

Yesterday was Greyson's 2nd birthday!! We had a wonderful day celebrating and can't believe that 2 years have gone by since our sweet little boy joined us. We started out the day with banana-chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast, we made his birthday cake together, and then went to Chuck-E-Cheese's for dinner and fun (compliments of Papa)! It was so fun to see him enjoying the singing/dancing mouse and playing on the games and rides. We love you sweet boy!

38-30...WHOOP!!!

Jason and I were privileged to go to the A&M/t.u. game today and watch the Aggies beat the HELL outta t.u. We had a great time with our Aggie family that we have had season tickets with for 25 years. It was cold, but we bundled up and watched an AWESOME game!! Thanks mom and Jerry for watching the kids so we could go :)

Thanksgiving

What a great Thanksgiving we had!! We went to Houston and enjoyed a relaxing time together with my family. We woke up Thursday morning to beautiful crisp weather; the way it should feel on Thanksgiving Day! Of course we ate too much as everyone does but enjoyed every last bite. As I spent time with my family, I thought about how thankful I am for them. I thought I would share some of my thoughts with you...

I have the greatest husband in the world!! I love the fact that I get to spend each moment of life with my best friend. After almost 8 years of marriage I still get butterfies in my stomach when I am going to see him after we have been away from each other. I love that he "gets me" and knows what I am thinking without me even having to say it. He is a wonderful father to our 2 beautiful children. Speaking of our children, how blessed am I to be a mother. What a gift from the Lord it truly has been to have these little ones in my life. I always knew I would love being a mother but never knew I would love it this much! I love that I have a wonderful relationship with both my parents and my brother. I have realized that not everyone is as lucky to have good relationships with their family so it is something I strive hard not to take for granted.

I will leave you with some fun pictures from our day. I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving spending time with family and friends. Most of all I hope you had time to reflect on the many blessings that you have in your life!!

4 Months

Our baby girl was 4 months old on Sunday! Where has the time gone? We are having so much fun with her and enjoy the personality she has added to our family. She can sit in a Bumbo seat, loves to "talk", has the sweetest smiles, rolls from her tummy to her back, and I noticed today that she is starting to get her 1st tooth. As you can tell she is also a great eater! It's hard to believe that this time last year we were finding out that this sweet little thing would be joining our family in 9 months. At the time we wondered "how could this be?" and "what have we done?" but we wouldn't trade her for the world!!

THANKFUL!!!

It's that time of year to reflect upon the things in our life that we are thankful for!

Every day I am thankful for my husband and 2 beautiful children. I have really been thankful for how wonderful they are over that past 48 hours...Tuesday night I came down with the most horrible stomach virus I think I have ever had. So horrible, that I will spare you all the details :) Needless to say my dear sweet husband was there for me every step of the way nursing me back to health. Thankfully his job allows him flexibility so he was able to take Greyson to MDO yesterday and stay home to take care of me meanwhile tending to the kiddos. Thankfully the kids were wonderful for daddy while I was in bed trying to get better. I am happy to say that I am starting to feel like a normal person again!! I know it will take a couple days to return to 100%, but anything better is great!

Pumpkin Patch

We had a great weekend with "Sito" (Jason's mom-Lebanese for grandma)! On Saturday we went to the Pumpkin Patch and had a wonderful time together as a family. We could not have asked for a more beautiful day. The place that we went to had all kinds of fun things for kids to do...hayrides, corn maze, petting zoo, pig races, and of course a pumpkin patch. It was so fun to watch Greyson having a good time. It is hard to believe he is old enough to enjoy all the fun things there were to do.

I love looking back through old pictures...here are some of our favorites. Enjoy!

Friday Fun

Today was an absolutely beautiful day! Even though our Texas fall has not seen fall like weather during the day we have welcomed the low 80's as a nice break from the upper 90's. Since the weather has been so nice we have been spending a lot of time outside. I think Greyson would spend all of his waking hours outside if we let him. We had some of our sweet friends over this morning for a playdate. The kids played outside while the mommies visited; everyone was happy!!

After Greyson woke up from his nap he "helped" me make brownies. Greyson is always very curious when I am cooking and loves to watch what is going on in the kitchen. So, I thought this would be a perfect way to start getting him involved in the kitchen. What child doesn't like licking the brownie spoon too, right??

Even though Davis was napping while we were outside this morning and while we were making brownies, I won't leave her out. She is growing like a weed, "talking" all the time, and is just as sweet as she can be!! Here is a picture to catch you up on her.

deceptively delicious!!!!

You mommy friends of mine that have toddlers may struggle with the same monster I do...getting your child to eat vegetables. I have been as creative as I possibly can but obviously not creative enough. I got Jessica Seinfield's new cookbook Deceptively Delicious in hopes I could find some recipes that Greyson would like and at the same time get veggies into his little body. I must admit, I was a little skeptical of how good brownies w/ spinach would be, but so far so good!!! I have made the brownies with spinach, quesadillas w/ squash, avacado spread, grilled cheese with squash and mac-n-cheese w/ cauliflower. He has eaten them all and I cannot tell you how exciting it is to see him eat something he loves secretly knowing there are veggies there!! I will tell you I made the gingerbread spice cake with broccoli and it was awful-I didn't even let Greyson try it b/c I spit it out myself :). Oh, and did I mention the house smelled like broccoli for a day after baking it?? So if you are struggling with the same problem I would highly suggest you investing in the cookbook. Happy veggie feeding!!

Baby Girl

So many of you that don't live here in CS with us have been asking me for weeks for new pictures of Davis and updates on how she is doing. I am so sorry that I have neglected my duties in doing this. I was so faithful with Greyson; I guess she truly is a 2nd child :).

Davis is doing great!! She is such a wonderful baby and has found her place in our growing family. She is 11 weeks old today, which is so hard to believe...where does the time go? She has been sleeping through the night for several weeks which makes for a much more sane mommy during the day :) For those of you that know me well, you know how much I depend on a good nights sleep. I guess there is a reason the Lord let's you forget about those sleepless nights with your previous children. Friends have asked me if I can tell a difference between having a boy and girl and I think I can. Other than the obvious...Jason and I have decided that there is definetly an urgency in her tone when she cries. She does like to be held a lot more than Greyson did, but we are embracing that. One thing we decided very early on after she was born was that we were going to cherrish all the sweet moments with her that we could (rocking her, holding her, etc.) because they just go by too fast. We cherrish the moments when Greyson wants to sit in our lap for more than a second now and even those moments are few and far between. Greyson loves his baby sister and is so sweet with her!! He loves to give her kisses and hold her (of course with our help) and acts as if she has been here all along. We are hoping the tenderness that he shows towards her will last and as they grow-up they can grow a unique friendship and bond like I have been so richly blessed with my brother. Davis truly is a "daddy's girl"...there is something so sweet and special to see Jason with her. We all knew that Davis would win her daddy's heart and she truly has already at such a young age! We love our little girl and cannot imagine our life without her. We get so excited thinking about her growing up and the woman she will become. But, for right now, we are enjoying the sweet little baby she is!

During Bible study today, one of our discussion topics was our purpose and privilege as a parent. I was able to reflect through His word on these precious gifts we have been entrusted with to raise up for His glory. As I sit here and type this post about our new little angel, it brings tears to my eyes to know that He loves Jason and I enough to first bless us with these children and second trusts us to pass on his truths. For those of you that are parents I know you understand what I am talking about. Friends that had kids before us always talked about the unique love you have for your kids and the gift it is from the Lord. You truly don't understand it though until you experience it. I think the neat thing about being a parent is that it gives you a small glimpse of what the Lord feels for us! -Kristen-

Lake Kiowa

We spent this past weekend with our best friends at a family friends lake house on Lake Kiowa. There were 4 couples all with one child except us who have 2, so 5 kiddos total. Some might call us crazy to spend an entire weekend under one roof with 14 people, 5 of them being kids, 4 of them under 1-year of age...we had a blast though!!! The house was nothing fancy, but all we needed was a place we could get together and fellowship with one another. The weather was beautiful thankfully so the kids were able to play in make-shift pools that we made out of rafts while the adults took turns playing on the seadous. It is times like these that I am able to reflect on how incredibly blessed we are with such amazing friends to share life with!! The Lord has provided us with these people that we have come to consider family. How lucky are we!!! Thanks for a great weekend Moffitts, Stricklands, and Baileys!! -Kristen-

We have joined the world of blogging...

So we finally have joined the world of blogging. I never thought I would be typing these words but here I am doing it. We have so many family and friends that do not live close by that are always asking for new pictures of the kids and wondering what is going on in our world. Since life only seems to get busier everyday, we thought this would be a great way to keep all of you up to date in the daily life of the DeVore family. I have been given the privilege to stay at home with our 2 beautiful kiddos! With this privilege I am getting the opportunity to watch them grow and change each and every day. With this opportunity I will be able to share with you the DeVore daily news. Thanks for allowing us to share our lives with you!! -Kristen-
